Zamorano professors and future agricultural engineering professionals visited Bolivia from September 19 to 24 on an educational visit to exchange knowledge with the Bolivian agricultural sector. Zamorano has graduated 361 Bolivian professionals who contribute to agricultural development. Currently, 38 young Bolivians are part of Zamorano’s student body.
Students from different Latin American countries visited Bolivia to participate in the 2016 Expocruz Trade Fair and learn about various production systems. Expocruz is a commercial event for the presentation and promotion of new products, and brand positioning. It is also a good opportunity to know the regional and global markets. Overall, an enriching experience for the students.
The trip began with a welcoming event in the Casa de Gobierno of Santa Cruz, hosted by Governor Ruben Costas, who knows that Zamorano´s mission is to form professional leaders that contribute to the development of their countries. Recently, Mr. Costas attended the International Convention of Zamorano Graduates (AGEAP International) that took place in Santa Cruz and signed a letter of intent for granting scholarships to Bolivian students. Zamorano is a non-profit organization that transforms the lives of talented young men and women from Bolivia and the world. It provides hands-on education based on comprehensive training where two out of three students have a scholarship.
During the trip, students participated in an Expocruz judging event; met with the Bolivian Zamorano Graduates Association (AGEAP Bolivia for its initials in Spanish); and visited FRIDOSA (leading company in the meat industry), the Uvairenda vineyard, and the Guabirá-Hacienda El Rosario sugar mill.
Zamorano offers this experience to its students to enrich their knowledge. Santa Cruz is a leading region in Bolivian development indicators and privileged for its extensive plains —ideal for raising cattle. Back at Zamorano, students learn firsthand about production, transformation, and commercialization of agricultural products. They learn in a hands-on manner in real working conditions, with an approach respectful to the environment. Hands-on learning includes the areas of production, livestock, and dairy herd units; laboratories with cutting-edge technology; agro-industrial plants; learning centers; and commercialization facilities.
With 75 years, Zamorano has formed 7,799 men and women from twenty-nine countries. Professionals renowned for their leadership, their contribution to the development of agriculture in their countries, and with an awareness of climate change. Furthermore, the university offers access to equal and inclusive education, without social, economic, or cultural limitations. Zamorano graduates generate global and creative solutions that help improve food and nutritional security.
