Webometrics, a ranking web of universities, listed five of ZAMORANO’s faculty among the top ten positions of outstanding scientific researchers in Honduras. The site ranks scientists based on their Google Scholar citations public profiles. Such recognition illustrates the highly talented professionals Zamorano has in order to offer an outstanding education.
The scientists heading the list in the first two positions, for the number of times their work has been cited, are Juan Carlos Rosas and Eric van den Berghe. Other faculty members among the first ten positions include Oliver Komar, Abelino Pitty and Jesus Orozco.

Dr. Juan Carlos Rosas teaches Genetics and Plant Breeding. He has been a leader in the Bean Research Program developing more than sixty varieties. He offers more than a hundred and twenty-five publications in scientific journals, chapters in books, memoirs of scientific meetings, textbooks, newsletters, brochures and others.
Dr. Eric van den Berghe teaches Ecology and Coastal Management. His research focuses on biological monitoring, biodiversity, animal behavior, taxonomy, orchids and fish.
Dr. Oliver Komar teaches Natural Resources Management and Biodiversity. His research area focuses on biodiversity, conservation biology, ecology and ornithology.
Dr. Abelino Pitty Cano teaches Technical Writing, Weeding, Physiology and Plant Propagation. He has authored and co-authored over fifty publications and five books and brochures. He has extensive experience researching weed management, the use of herbicide adjuvants and tillage systems.
Dr. Jesus Orozco teaches Entomology and is the curator responsible of administrating, developing and improving the entomological collection of ZAMORANO, which is the second largest in Central America with about 300,000 specimens. His research focuses on taxonomy, monitoring and diagnosis of agricultural, forest and urban pests, biodiversity and both veterinary and human health.
This ranking initiative is funded by ACUMEN (Academic Careers Understood through Measurement and Norms), which is a collaboration of the European Commission. ACUMEN’s purpose is to understand how scientific researchers evaluate each other’s work. Webometrics is also an initiative of the Cybermetrics Laboratory, a research group under the Council for Scientific Research (CSIR) in Spain, which evaluates scientific institutions. Webometrics has classified more than twenty-five thousand institutions.
