Hospital officials acknowledged the support from the Zamorano graduates, noting that the biosecurity equipment allows them to work in a more reliably safe environment in the face of the pandemic.
With the goal of enhancing safety from COVID-19 for the medical and sanitation staff at the Hospital San Francisco in Juticalpa, Olancho, Honduras, graduates from Zamorano’s Class of 2014 donated biosecurity equipment. The donation included shoe and hair coverings, masks and reusable overalls, in a quantity estimated to last six months.
Zamorano graduates are engrained with a deep sense of social responsibility. This support will help reduce contamination of the healthcare workers who work every day on the front lines directly with patients who have contracted the virus. “We thought a lot about which hospital to which we would make our donation. We learned that Olancho presents the highest levels of mortality in Honduras and we decided that Hospital San Francisco would be the one” added graduate Norman Eveline, who coordinated the drive. Alongside Norman, his classmates David Villafuerte and Alejandro Vasquez helped to coordinate the purchasing and delivery of the donation.
Zamorano graduates have always distinguished themselves by their spirit of solidarity in service to their countries and communities, including to the private, public and/or academic sectors. They go the extra mile and can be most counted on during times of crisis.
