Founded in 1942, Zamorano is a private, non-profit international university specialized in higher education in the fields of agricultural production, sustainable management of natural resources and the environment, rural development to reduce poverty, adding value through agro-industrialization and improvement of global agribusiness competitiveness. Zamorano University is located 33 kilometers southeast of the capital city of Tegucigalpa, in the Yeguare Valley of Honduras, and is registered in the United States as a non-profit corporation. In Honduras, Zamorano has the status of an International Mission and is recognized as one of the best agricultural universities in Latin America.
Zamorano offers four undergraduate degrees in agricultural engineering: Agribusiness Management; Food Science and Technology; Agricultural Sciences and Production; and Environment and Development. The four-year educational program emphasizes academic excellence and character formation, and it complements theory with practical field experience through its Learning-by-Doing program, in which the students work half a day in the production and processing plants or conserving the natural resources that are part of the university campus.
Zamorano is located on 10,000 acres, which include the central campus, agricultural land, and forests in two watersheds, one of which is a biological reserve. All students and approximately 100 professors, instructors, staff members and their families live on campus. The General Curriculum Department manages the coursework for students during their first two years at Zamorano, preparing them for their majors, with an academic foundation of sciences, mathematics, social sciences and language. The Zamorano calendar is arranged in trimesters of 15 weeks including exams, with short breaks between each term and a longer break over the December-January winter holidays. English courses are currently mandatory for Zamorano students during their first three years. Many students gain enough proficiency to compete for senior year internships in English-speaking countries and later attend graduate schools around the world.
The General Curriculum Department is hiring an Assistant Professor of English to teach on a permanent basis starting April 2017. This is a full-time position primarily related to teaching beginner – advanced students with an average workload of 15-18 contact hours, planning and evaluation tasks. Beginner levels focus on integrating skills, while intermediate and advanced levels emphasize development of academic language skills related to listening, speaking, reading and writing with a strong research component. Professors are also required to be part of existent extra-curricular activities and be part of additional academic activities within the institution.
Expected qualifications:
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in English, English Education, Modern Languages (English), EFL/ESL, Second Language Acquisition or Linguistics (with an English focus), or TESOL/TEFL.
- Minimum of 3 years of university-level teaching experience.
- Mastery of contemporary and dynamic teaching methods (e.g., CLT, TBLT, CBI, CLIL etc.) that emphasize oral and written communication in the target language.
- Experience with students of different nationalities, native languages and cultural backgrounds.
- Capable of designing, implementing and delivering workshops and lectures for in service training or International conferences.
- Commitment to student success and whole-person development.
- Strong and effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
- High level of professional organization.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Capacity to set and achieve goals.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the Internet.

- Fluency in Spanish is not required but some knowledge of the language is preferred.
