WHAT IS ZAMORANO

Zamorano is a private, international, agricultural university in Honduras near the capital, Tegucigalpa. The campus includes a 5,000-hectare working farm that produces and processes a wide variety of agricultural products. The farm provides Zamorano’s 1,250 students with practical experience and research opportunities in preparation for careers related to food systems such as: Agribusiness Management, Food Science and Technology, Environment and Development, and Agricultural Sciences and Production. To ensure that the university’s teaching and research programs are world class, Zamorano maintains strong partnerships with leading universities, research centers and development organizations around the globe.

Zamorano students learn and develop leadership skills by working and studying with members of Zamorano’s diverse community, which includes students from more than 20 Latin American countries and faculty trained in the Americas, Europe and Asia. THE VICE PRESIDENT

The Zamorano Vice President of Finance, Human Resources and Operations reports directly to the President. Working closely with the President, this position shares responsibility for Institutional leadership in accomplishing established mission and goals. The Vice President of Finance, Human Resources and Operations will have an opportunity to build on excellence while leading a team in identifying and capitalizing on new opportunities for increased impact in support of the University’s mission.

PURPOSE

To ensure the administrative and operational functions of the University work in an efficient and effective manner to support the University in executing its mission to achieve its vision.

Plan, organize and control the activities of the University with the aim of supporting the generation of greater efficiencies, making decisions in a timely and reliable way. Create control guidelines, financial analysis; supervise policy compliance, personnel management, assuring synergy with the other areas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES      

The Vice President will:

  • Serve as a key member to the President´s leadership team and provides advice and counsel on all administrative, human resources, and financial matters affecting the institution.
  • Lead, oversee and manage the areas of CFO, COO (Land, Infrastructure, Services and Social Responsibility) and HR.
  • Achieve and maintain solid financial stability. Oversee the institutional budget and accounting.
  • Develop, recommend and carry out comprehensive policies and programs for managing the University administrative activities in accordance with the mission and goals.
  • Ensure the operational development of the institution through optimal management of the areas under the Vice Presidency.
  • Collaborate closely with other staff members of the Institution, participating in committees appointed by the President.
  • Prepare accurate reports for Board of Trustees meetings and ensure the effective communication with the different members of Board of Trustees Committees throughout the year.

QUALIFICATIONS    

  • An advanced degree, such as an MBA, MHA, or a degree in a related field is required.
  • Ten to fifteen years of senior leadership experience, effective management, and communication skills, with preference in finance and general administration, technological implementations, and innovation programs or related.
  • Proven experience and ability to lead and motivate a diverse group of people in order to achieve the respective goals.
  • Proven experience in long term strategic planning.
  • Experience in analyzing complex organizational problems and implementing new solutions by thinking outside the box.
  • Experience in analyzing, streamlining, and automating of processes.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and a record of successful management of budgets and financial resources.
  • Knowledge of complex finance and contract funding.
  • Demonstrated ability to make difficult decisions, assert authority in a respectful way, be transparent and equitable in applying fiscal and administrative policy, and ensure accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Completely bilingual.

Because Zamorano University is registered in Delaware, U.S.A. as a non-profit corporation and has International Mission status in Honduras, the incoming Vice President should be familiar with the US institutional culture.

The Vice President of Finance, Human Resources and Operations primary residence will be on the Zamorano campus.
